Katie Jenkins is a composer of film, classical and electronic music from Wales, UK. Katie is now based in Manhattan, NYC, where she is currently studying at The Juilliard School under Dr. Christopher Rouse. She holds the Gretchaninoff composition award as well as the Henry Mancini scholarship. As a participant aat the Cheltenham Composer’s Academy and Curtis Summerfest, Katie has received masterclasses from Missy Mazzoli, David Ludwig and Jonathan Bailey Holland. In the Royal College of Music, London, she also attended masterclasses with Michael Price and Eric Whitacre.
Since moving to NYC in 2018, Katie has been active collaborating with vocalists, film makers, dancers, instrumentalists, directors and actors.
Recent projects include electro-acoustic film scores for BBC wildlife film maker Nick Jones and an opera miniature for Juilliard vocalists. This year, I will be attending the Film Academy of Europe to study with LA based film composer, Christopher Young. Over the past two years, she has produced works for violinists Arianna Brusubardis and Phoenix Avalon, a work for viola and piano for WNO Principal Viola Philip Heyman, songcycles for soprano Elizabeth Sokolowski and tenor Michael McDermott and an orchestral work for the Cardiff and Vale Youth Orchestra which she conducted in Hoddinott Hall, Wales Millenium Centre, 2018.
Katie’s earlier works have been performed by Welsh concert pianist, Simon Shewring, violinist Alice Howell, the Harmonia Sacra choir and the Howell’s School Llandaff student body for their theatre show, Peter Pan.
On a flat calm day in the Seychelles Christopher Vaughan-Jones blows a chain of memorising bubble rings in crystal clear water. Look at them sparkle in the sunlight, as they twist, warp, divide and combine in slow-motion.
