Kaleidoscope is a work that highlights the broad and beautiful sounds a trumpet can create. Deeply influenced by jazz and blue-grass music, Jenkins creates her own spin on these genres, interweaving these sound worlds with her love of mixed-meter grooves and lyrical chorales inspired by her Welsh heritage. The piece experiments with senza misura cadenzas versus notated improvisations; bridging the gap between rhythmic freedom and structure. The result is an adventurous work that journeys through contrasting personalities and colors.
